Our Curriculum
Career Foundations helps students build the real-world skills they need for career and life success. Through practical, engaging programs, students gain the confidence, knowledge, and tools to explore career paths, manage money, communicate effectively, and prepare for life beyond the classroom.
Aloha!
We’re proud to share Career Foundations with you – a resource created to support Hawai‘i’s learners as they take important steps toward personal, professional, and community success.
Through Hawai‘i State Community School for Adults, this program brings together five focused pathways: Skills, Bank, Biz, Farm, and Career Connections. Each one offers practical tools and meaningful guidance, whether you’re returning to school, exploring a new career, or working to better support your ʻohana.
At the Hawai‘i State Department of Education, we believe that learning should be relevant, empowering and rooted in purpose. Career Foundations reflects those values, combining real-world knowledge with opportunities for self-discovery. From financial literacy and agriculture to entrepreneurship and reflection, these programs help individuals grow in ways that matter.
Your choice to keep learning strengthens more than just your future, it strengthens your family, your community, and Hawai‘i as a whole. We’re honored to support you on this journey.

Superintendent, Hawai‘i Department of Education
“Build Your Skills enhanced my ability to navigate academic and professional challenges with purpose and self awareness. I built competencies in time management, goal setting, and effective communication, which helped me approach tasks with structure and clarity.”
— Selena Melena, Build Your Skills student“Build Your Biz gave me support, guidance, and a roadmap to launch a business. By the end [of the program], I had a complete business plan, a registered company, and tools to move forward. Nearly a year later, I launched Flower Farm Hawaiʻi, planted pakalana and puakenikeni, and harvested my first season of flowers for lei.”
